Untitled (Neck Piece #1)

Untitled (Neck Piece #1) is a continued study of my inspiration based on the hydrangea seed pod. In this piece I first considered scale variation to further highlight what design elements support my work. Simply by combining various scales of the same shape, the piece captured more fully the intrigue and life which originally drew me to the seedpods. I choose a cupric nitrate patina to create a unified yet dynamic surface. This decision served as an exploration of how the surface can alter and support the perception of the forms. The blue patinated finish allows the consistency of the lines to live symbiotically with the intentional variation of the surface. Together, these elements create a striking yet natural and inviting neckpiece.
