Untitled (Brooch)

This brooch uses copper and brass to explore creating negative spaces in a three dimensional space. In both the small and large sections, the shapes move towards each other to a central point but diverge before touching. This design element is made possible and structurally sound by the soldered connections at the base of the piece which create an external implied line. This line is broken by the curved elements on the outside of each shape. Exploring designs in metal that feel airy and capture movement while being statically connected, creates a challenge of design and perception. By further exploring the relationship between positive and negative space in three dimensional space I hope to harness the possibilities within design to delight the eye.
