Emersion Neckpiece

This neckpiece uses the visual language of a sweet gum seedpod translated into an elegant, almost regal neckpiece. The abundance of sweetgum seed pods in my relative’s yard drew me to their spiky spherical forms. Originally desiring to create cast replicas of these pieces, I was encouraged to explore translating the design elements of the seed pod into wire forms. This approach allowed me to identify what aspects of the seedpod were most intriguing and build on the visual language I identified. The large form on the left surrounded by smaller forms explores scale both in relation to the shapes and how they sit on the body. The way the piece resets on the model's collar bone highlights the relationship between the piece and the wearer. My hope is that the delicate wire lines become animated by the presence of the wearer and that the uniqueness of the wearer and the piece in conversation creates a moment of wonder and curiosity.
