Dispersion Collar

This neckpiece continues translating the visual language of the sweetgum seedpod into wearable jewelry sculptures. The design of this piece both invites the viewer to examine closely the intricate wire forms while simultaneously warding off the viewer with its spiky, wiry ends. Just like the spherical spikey sweetgum seedpod protects its seeds until they can be planted in the ground, I wanted to explore elements of protection made beautiful. The architectural elements of these pieces are rooted in translating the seedpod wire shapes into structures that make it comfortably wearable. The negative space in the piece creates a light weight and airy element that invites the wearer to contribute to the story of the piece.
